Fallen Soldier: Ramon Gutierrez

Sergeant Ramon Gutierrez, 45, died while working an off-duty job as a motorcycle escort, helping a heavy load along the service road just before 1 a.m. on January 24, 2022, in northeast Harris County. Gutierrez was off his motorcycle which le left blocking the exit ramp, when a 40-year-old woman drove around his bike and hit him. The woman immediately left the scene but was later arrested.

Sgt. Gutierrez began his law enforcement career as a detention officer at the Harris County Jail. After a year of helping manage the custody and care of those inside the largest jail in Texas, he entered Basic Peace Officer Course Training. For the past 13 years, he was assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Division.

Gutierrez was married to his high school sweetheart, and together, they had three children - including a daughter who was to be married soon after the incident.

“The scars will be there forever, seared in the family’s hearts,” Sheriff Gonzalez said, “The father will not be there to walk his daughter down the aisle. You can’t put a price on that.”
